Biography
Solomone Kata is a Tongan international midfielder and outside back born on 3 December 1994, currently with Leicester Tigers in the Gallagher Premiership. Kata's career has been one of the more varied in the modern professional game. Originally a union player, he came through the Blues' Super Rugby squad in New Zealand before switching codes to rugby league, where he had spells with the Brisbane Broncos and the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL. He returned to rugby union with Moana Pasifika at the start of their Super Rugby Pacific journey, before signing for Leicester. On the international stage, Kata has represented Tonga, including involvement in the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. His game is built on physical carries, footwork in contact and the kind of league-honed defensive technique that translates directly to centre and wing play. At Leicester, he gives the senior backs unit a heavy-traffic ball-carrier and a defensive presence capable of disrupting opposition midfields.
