Biography
Few players have switched codes as emphatically as Suliasi Vunivalu. Born on 27 November 1995, the powerful winger arrived in rugby union with a formidable reputation already built in rugby league, having won two NRL premierships with the Melbourne Storm as one of the competition's most prolific try-scorers. Now plying his trade for Stade Rochelais in France's Top 14, Vunivalu offers La Rochelle an explosive finishing threat on the flank. His game is defined by raw athleticism, exceptional aerial ability, and the kind of size and power that makes him a handful for any defence in broken play. Capable of capitalising on the territory and kicking game that underpins so much of modern French club rugby, he is a natural target in the air and a genuine line-break threat once in space. Vunivalu has also represented Australia at international level, earning Wallabies caps after completing his transition between the codes. While the move from league to union demanded adjustment, particularly around the technical and positional nuances of the fifteen-man game, his finishing instincts have remained a constant. At La Rochelle, he provides a potent attacking weapon out wide.
