Biography

A product of New Zealand's rugby pathways, Taine Kolose is an openside flanker on the books at the Gallagher Chiefs in Super Rugby Pacific. Born on 25 February 2003, the young forward brings the energetic, breakdown-focused style that has long been a hallmark of Kiwi loose forwards. Kolose plays with a relentless edge, competing hard for turnover ball, throwing himself into the defensive effort and looking to disrupt opposition possession at every opportunity. As an openside specialist, he thrives in the contest for the ball on the ground, reading the breakdown and using his physicality to slow or steal opposition ruck ball. Developing within one of New Zealand's premier franchises, Kolose has the benefit of training and competing alongside high-class forwards in a competition that demands both intensity and skill. For an emerging back-rower, the priority is to turn potential into consistent senior performances, and the Chiefs environment offers an ideal stage on which to do so. Kolose offers his side defensive leadership in the making, breakdown craft and a physical presence beyond his years. As he gathers game time, the young New Zealander will be aiming to establish himself as a regular fixture in the Chiefs' back row.
