Biography
A durable and experienced South African prop, Trevor Nyakane has long been one of the most recognisable front-row forwards in the global game. Born on 4 May 1989, he built his senior profile with the Bulls and Racing 92 in France before joining the Sharks, bringing with him a deep body of work at the highest level of club and Test-match rugby.
Nyakane's game is defined by heavy-duty scrum work paired with a surprisingly mobile profile for a front-row forward. He is a powerful scrummager able to operate on either side of the front row, and he couples that technical versatility with strong, committed ball-carrying in the tight channels and a high work-rate around the field. That all-round profile has made him a go-to option through successive seasons of top-tier rugby.
He was part of the Springboks squad that lifted the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, one of the landmark achievements of the modern South African era and a defining moment in his Test-match career. That international success sat alongside a long run of heavy-minutes scrum contests in the Currie Cup, Super Rugby, Top 14 and European stages.
At the Sharks he now operates as a senior anchor in the front-row rotation, offering set-piece stability, a demanding training standard and the voice of a Test-hardened forward. Nyakane remains a trusted scrum presence and a leading figure in one of South African rugby's most storied packs.
