Biography
A product of the Union Bordeaux Bègles academy, Valentin Hutteau is one of the promising young backs coming through at the Gironde club. Born on 26 June 2007, the French teenager has caught the eye with his footwork, acceleration and willingness to attack the line, attributes that suit Bordeaux Bègles' ambitious, ball-in-hand approach. Still in the early stages of his development, Hutteau is being brought through carefully within a backline that has become one of the most dangerous in the Top 14. His game is built on pace and a sharp reading of space, allowing him to threaten from broken play and support breaks at speed. At this point in his career the focus is on adding physical maturity and tactical polish to a naturally attacking skill set. As a home-grown French prospect tied to a leading domestic side, he represents the kind of talent UBB has prioritised, and continued progress through the age-grade and senior development setup will determine how quickly he pushes for regular involvement. For now he remains a player to watch rather than a finished article, with the tools to develop into a genuine asset.
