Biography

Izak "Zak" Burger has built his reputation as a busy, accurate scrum-half who keeps his team ticking. Born on 20 August 1998, the South African number nine took a well-travelled route to the top, turning out for Western Province at youth level and gaining senior experience with Griquas before settling at the Bulls, where he now features in the United Rugby Championship and for the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup. What Burger lacks in physical size he makes up for with speed of service and game management. His passing is quick and clean, he varies his tactical kicking intelligently, and he is alert to opportunities to snipe around the breakdown. As the link between a powerful Bulls pack and a dangerous backline, he plays a central role in dictating tempo and getting his side on the front foot. A consistent performer who can both start and provide impact off the bench, Burger has become a dependable half-back option in a competitive Pretoria squad chasing honours on multiple fronts.
