Biography
Few tightheads in Scottish rugby have carried as much long-term weight in both club and international packs as Zander Fagerson. Born on 19 January 1996, he made his senior debut for Glasgow Warriors as a teenager and has since become one of the defining front-row forwards of his generation north of the border.
Fagerson's game pairs heavy-duty scrum power with a mobile, involved profile around the field. He is a technically disciplined tighthead whose set-piece work has made him a go-to scrummager at the highest level, and he couples that with strong ball-carrying in the tight channels and a consistent tackle count through the body of a Test match. The combination has established him as a modern, all-round front-row forward.
At Glasgow he was part of the squad that lifted the 2014–15 PRO12 title, a landmark moment in the club's modern history and an early marker of the standing he would go on to build in the Warriors pack.
On the international stage, Fagerson has become a cornerstone of the Scotland front row across successive Six Nations campaigns, including selection for the 2021 British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa. That Lions involvement placed him among the elite tightheads in the British and Irish game and underlined his standing as one of Scotland's most trusted senior forwards.
